Carbon Steel & Stainless Steel Pipe Shoes & Protection Saddles for Industrial Piping

Product Overview

Pipe Shoes and Saddles are universal heavy-duty pipeline base support accessories widely used in industrial piping construction, serving as essential structural supports for overhead, ground-mounted and bridge piping systems. Different from narrow-function clamps and insulated supports, our industrial pipe saddles feature an integrated arc saddle design that perfectly fits pipe outer diameters, providing full-contact uniform load distribution. Engineered to elevate pipelines off mounting surfaces, these pipe shoes effectively solve common industrial pain points such as direct friction wear, bottom corrosion, water accumulation erosion, and structural stress concentration. Available in fixed, sliding and height-adjustable types, our pipe shoes and saddles fit normal temperature, high-temperature and conventional low-temperature piping conditions. Fully standardized and customizable, they are extensively applied in petrochemical, power generation, municipal engineering, marine and general industrial pipeline projects worldwide.

Key Features & Engineering Benefits

Optimized Load Distribution: Pipe Saddles cradle the lower half of large-diameter pipes, minimizing localized wall stress and preventing buckling under heavy fluid weight.

Thermal Expansion Clearance: Pipe Shoes lift the process line away from structural steel, providing ample room for external insulation (lagging) while allowing smooth, unhindered axial sliding.

Corrosion & Friction Mitigation: Eliminates direct metal-to-metal rubbing between pipes and beams. Optional PTFE, Graphite, or Neoprene liners can be integrated to stop galvanic corrosion and drastically lower friction coefficients.

Heavy-Duty Construction: Precision-welded from premium carbon steel or stainless steel, built to comply with strict international piping codes and withstand aggressive industrial environments.

Versatile Configurations: Available in welded-on types for permanent, high-load integrity, or bolted/clamped designs for quick on-site installation without hot work.

Applications

• Our heavy-duty shoes and saddles are deployed across critical global sectors:

• Oil & Gas Refineries & Petrochemical Process Plants

• Power Generation Plants (High-pressure steam and water loops)

• Chemical Processing Facilities & Tank Terminals

• Water, Wastewater, and Slurry Infrastructure Pipelines

• Marine & Offshore Piping Systems

What Is a Pipe Saddle?

A pipe saddle is a structure consisting of a curved saddle section and integral base that is used to support the pipe by transmitting the load or forces to the adjacent structureThe saddle plate usually subtends an arc of 90° or 120°. A pipe saddle spreads the pipe load over a much larger portion of the pipe surface area and substantially reduces the local pipe wall stresses.

Pipe saddles are the preferred solution when:

Pipe diameters exceed 12 inches (NPS 12+)

The pipe is heavy and requires load distribution over a wider area

Local pipe wall stresses from point-loading must be minimized

The pipe is bare (non-insulated) or has minimal insulation

The pipe rests on concrete or steel beams, pipe racks, or trapeze supports

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between a pipe shoe and a pipe saddle?

A: A pipe shoe (MSS SP-58 Type 35/36) is a support attachment that elevates pipes above structural steel, primarily to protect insulation from being crushed. A pipe saddle (MSS SP-58 Type 37/38) uses a curved saddle plate (90°–120° arc) to cradle the pipe and distribute the load over a much larger surface area, substantially reducing local pipe wall stresses。 Shoes are typically used for pipes 2"–48"+ , while saddles are preferred for large-diameter pipes 12"–72"

Q: When should I use a pipe shoe versus a pipe saddle?

A: Use a pipe shoe when the pipe is insulated and you need to protect the insulation from being crushed, or when you need to create slope on pipe rack lines. Use a pipe saddle for large-diameter pipes (>12") where load distribution over a wider area is critical to reduce local wall stresses-.

Q: What is the difference between welded and clamped pipe shoes?

A: Welded pipe shoes are welded directly to the pipe — most common for carbon and alloy steel pipes NPS 3 and above. Clamped pipe shoes use bolted clamps around the pipe — preferred for stainless steel, duplex, or non-ferrous pipes where welding is restricted to avoid sensitization and maintain corrosion resistance.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

A: Our MOQ is flexible. We welcome trial orders and can accommodate small quantities for sample evaluation.

Q: Do you provide samples?

A: Yes, samples are available upon request. Sample fees are refundable on bulk orders.

Q: What certifications do your products have?

A: Our pipe shoes and saddles comply with MSS SP-58, MSS SP-69, MSS SP-89, ASME B31.1 & B31.3, and EN13480-3 standards.

Q: Can you produce shoes for pipes larger than 48 inches?

A: Absolutely. Our pipe shoe range covers from 2" up to 48"+ and can be custom-engineered for larger diameters upon request.
